Noob .. I just realized we have a team of refs. lol It probably wouldn't be fair if people were allowed to ref their own game. I don't think any of us would bother to, or have any need to cheat, but I can see people disliking it.

I can ref! I'd be very hard on people, though.

pretty obvious people can't ref their own games That's why I'm still looking for people who actually know how to play loose. I want the list to be a bit bigger so that if your team has a bye, you can ref another match before your starts. And once the first rounds happen, there will be more available refs. had; you can't be ref sorry.<3

As long as the current admins / refs are there during DFT, we will have like two refs per game at any given time. We only have two servers, so two teams play at a time. The most refs that can play at once is like 4, and it doesn't look like Vibe has a team (yet?) so there's a ref too. 7 Total, so 3 available at any time .. so far. Of course, that's cutting it close and I agree we need more. But if everyone shows up, we shouldn't have a problem.

I plan on being available to ref every match if needed in either server. So there's one steady ref on the payroll. -Also- I think I came up with a decent way to word what I was thinking about that hopefully everyone can agree on as far as rules for loose play. There are a few gray areas and nuances in loose df that some of the non df players may not be familiar with and the seasoned dfers may not agree upon, but mostly where it may be hard for refs to discern what call to make. This is my proposal to clear a few of those up. This way we not only have a standardized rule set for these gray areas for refs to lean on instead of leaving it to individual discretion, but we also can pass the tenets we agree upon to the tourney teams (especially the less df-familiar ones) so they know what to expect. Professional MMA and boxing fights brief players on the rules and regs, so we should too. I'm not going to include noob rules that everyone should know like rimming and camping and shit. For those who don't, refer here: insomniaclan.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ldftut&action=display&thread=747This looks like a lot written out, but most of it is common sense stuff we all just take as given. Here's my proposal for DFT guidelines for your perusal and discussion:
- When a player executes an illegal move, they may remain in the lead, but are expected to stop trapping until the pursuing player either escapes or is killed.
- Kills caused by illegal moves will not be awarded points.
- If a player is killed by an illegal move, they are respawned by a referee and the score is adjusted. If their death causes the match to end, the score is adjusted but no respawn is necessary.
- Excessive use of illegal moves after being warned is grounds for a referee to smite a player from the current match.
- When escaping, a player may do anything and everything in their power to survive short of camping and back dooring (see exclusions below).
- Stabbing/digging
Steering your cycle into a line (cycle wall) thus using rubber and sealing the path for any pursuing players is an illegal move. No points awarded. Note: Stabbing or digging on any player's line to gain the lead over another player as you would on the rim is also an illegal move.
- Flat Hooks/Traps/Tunnels
If the hook/trap/tunnel is more than half flat (or less than half the width of a full double bind) according to ref's judgement, then it is an illegal move. No points awarded.
- Back Doors
Back dooring (retreating from a clean/legal trap by reversing direction to avoid it) is illegal. Back dooring is only legal to avoid a flagrantly illegal move such as a seal or heavy stab where attempting escape means almost certain death.
- Rim Stabbing/Digging
Stabbing or digging on the rim to gain the lead over another player is illegal. Stabbing or digging on any player's line to gain the lead over another player is also illegal.
- Sammies
Two teammates may attack an opponent from both sides creating a trap sandwich, or sammie. You may only use a back door to escape from a sammie if the attacking players seal the path with an illegal move.
- Line Traps
To discourage accidental stabs, when hooking or tunneling on a flat line, a player may not contact the line with any amount of rubber whatsoever, half flat or otherwise. Clean line trapping is legal, but not very effective and/or smart.
please lemme know if I forgot something that should be added or added something that should be forgotten. Let's hash this out so i can quit buggin inoob about what the rules are gonna be, lol.

@ kira; I don't plan on having only 2 servers. we will have more hoepfully. WE can turn rx east and west into one.
@vibe; I agree with everything. .. . BUT. . "Stabbing or digging on the rim to gain the lead over another player is perfectly legal." Sense when is rim stabbing legal?

Since everyone always does it all the time anyway, haha. I never do so I'm down with making it illegal. Also, i'm rethinking the Flat hook thing. Maybe a half is too strict. No one would ever die. Maybe a quarter of a full double bind?

I can try hosting multiple servers as well. There shouldn't be a problem with it, but I just didn't think it was important enough before. Now that more people joined that I expected, I guess it should be changed from two.
If I hosted two, we had Rx East DF to DFT, the one I have, plus one on West .. Five servers should be more than enough. At the least we'll have four.

With the teams we have signed up right now, we'll need 5. I'm sure that if we aren't able to pop up with 5 of them people will donate their servers for that day.

That's a lotta servers, that would mean for a perfect situation we'd need 15 refs.

We don't really "need" a server for every match though on the first round. It would work out perfectly fine if one or two had to wait until the second round. And games in the second round could be played while they play their first, and it would even out with the teams that get knocked out.
And three refs per game ain't a whole lot, since you're trying to keep track of 6 people. I think either two or three would be good.

We don't need, but i want. More organized that way. I was only thinking 1 ref per match but maybe we do need more OoO

I'm just going through and modifying the post with the proposed rules in it with changes as they arise so it's easier to keep track of, fyi.

We don't need, but i want. More organized that way. I was only thinking 1 ref per match but maybe we do need more OoO Personally, I would try for two per server. It's impossible for one person to keep an eye on six people. When there's three separate fights going on, they're gonna be failing to see a lot of what happens. I think two people would be good since usually there won't be three separate fights, so people will be grouped in to one or two groups. It could probably work with one, but it would take players being honest as well for it to work, and I don't think you want to rely on that. I'm just going through and modifying the post with the proposed rules in it with changes as they arise so it's easier to keep track of, fyi. I think you should make a sub-page for the DFT wiki when it's done. That would be a much better place for the rules than on a forum. If you don't know how, or don't have permission to. I'm sure noobie and myself could help ya out.

The problem is. . . there's not many people who I would consider good ref's. Name loose players kgogogo.
I still got to ask Noxi.

Of course kira, just meant as we go along until we have a solid static set. At which point I was gonna let inoob take care of it, hehe.
Two refs per server is sufficient, but i believe three is optimal. Especially as we get closer to the finals when fights last longer, having three fights go on at the same time will become more common and playing tight becomes more tempting.

I kind'a used the rules you posted as a guide and made a list of rules for regular Loose DF. I know there's a few things missing, but I'll add more later. If you want to see it, it's in my Light's Loose Dogfight. Just type /rules and you'll get the spam. If ya guys like it, after I get the list done up to what I think is sufficient, I could make a similar one for Rx's. I need to make sure it no longer crashes the server and stuff though. Apparently spamming messages, not the best idea.

17:00 GMT is currently 13:00 EST right? I think we're -4 at the moment? It would help to know the right time. Even though I'll try to be early.
