Interesting... but it would be VERY hard to implement, unless we had predefined grids, in which case would still be very hard to do.
Plus, I don't think the fun factor will be there, especially for a multiplayer game

Quite possible... for every new round:
script creates a grid of neutral zones, writes coordinates into file (spawn_zone target); script walks through the pattern, randomly applying bombs like this: if there should be a bomb, attach to file: set_target_command with a command to create a large deathzone at the respective location (onenter); if there should be no bomb, attach to file: set_target_command with instructions to collapse the old zone (onenter), creating a new one whose color indicates the amount of bombs surrounding (precalculated) (onvanish).
Before round start, include said file. Make target_survive_time short, 1 second. And bird view would be good, i guess.
Not sure if my writing actually makes sense, but the idea doesn't sound too complicated.
