Hey, I'm iNoob. I've been playing tron for 4 maybe 5 months now and I've become a decent DF'er for my amount of time. Here I will tell you some of the simple steps I took in order to achieve my skill level.
- Tip #1: Don't play by the score board, play for fun!
- Tip #2: Play with good DF'ers, even if you get your ass kicked.
- Tip #3: Try to avoid rage quitting. Play to have fun, not to go out there and try smoking everyone.
- Tip #4: Don't be a wuss. Never back door before it's considered a back-door (Those who do this know what I'm talking about) Even if there is a stab, go for it.
- Tip #5: Try the impossible. Who gives a shit if you die, keep trying the impossible, and soon enough it'll be like taking a baby from a dukevin. Also, even if there's a HR'ing noob trapping you, go for it and try to escape.
- Tip #6: Be a good sport on the grid. This may not seem to have affect on your skills, but trust me, it does.
- Tip #7: MAZING! I'm no mazing pro, but learning a few mazes will help your camping when it's necessary in DF instead of going crazy in a small space leading to death.
- Tip #8: Perfect turns. Try perfecting perfect turns, or at least very close to the wall. Not only are they clean, but they are deadly.
- Tip #9: Always stay ahead of your opponent. Trapping after every corner you see is NOT necessary. That is actually bad because your opponent can easily catch up and make you the victim instead of him, if he's a good escaper. Stay ahead till you see a good part to throw in a trap. that will slow your opponent down, and you will have more time to deploy even more traps. Once he's closing in again, repeat the step.
- Tip #10: Try to 1 on 1 people in your league, and people over your league. This will help you fight under pressure if you ever decide to join a clan, or just to show off.
- Tip #11: Hooks hooks hooks. Hooks are probably the deadliest legal traps in DF. IF placed in the right places, you wont only slow down your opponent a certain amount, but possibly kill. as long as the hook is visible and not stabbing a wall, it is clean! Try perfecting hooks in small areas, or where they are most deadly!
- Tip #12: Wraps. Having at least one wrap is very useful. You don'y really need more then one wrap, but having more doesn't hurt. The most important thing about wraps is knowing when to throw them. Try throwing them in perfect times, and all you'll hear is PWN PWN PWN
- Tip #13: Expand your game play. Explore different places other then DF. Sumo will help your mazing, CTF will help your escaping, and fort will help your fast-acting skills.
- Tip #14: Digging. Do you guys know about those tight ass hooks that aren't even considered tight anymore? o; Well, fast digging will help you escape that. It will also help you escape stabs/digs more quickly and give you a faster opportunity to catch up to your attacker.
- Tip #15: Don't get mad at people who play tight df. I know you get really pissed at this. But look at it this way. He's/She's just helping your escaping.
- Tip #16:Tip #16: WHEN in practice, don't use brakes for escape. IF you're a brake person, it's okay to use it during "normal" play. Once you become good at escaping without brakes, escaping WITH brakes will be a peace o f cake.
- Tip #17: When an opponent appears to be getting ahead of you, come back right where you came from. As in, Follow your line back. I've noticed that people usually stay a few spaces away from their line which leaves a space of invulnerability. Stay as close to your wall as possible when going back!
Little games you can practice in DF with buddies:
- Sandwiches: 3 people are needed. The 2 people close in on one person (in the middle). One of the guys on the other side sets up traps as if he were fighting with himself. (Or you can mash keyboard) While the other guy on the outter side is setting up traps on the mashing. Thee person in the middle tries to escape this fucked up path. (WILL help your escaping a LOT!)
- Tight DF: Play tight df in a normal df server. If you become good at this, normal df escaping will be nothing! (WILL help your escaping a LOT!)
Follow the leader - Try following a person making not so many turns. Try to perfect perfect turns using this method.
++ I will come back time to time to this topic when i think of more ways to help grow your df skills. ++
