So i just lost my Norton internet 1 year subscription. I'm really satisfied with the service Norton has provided. But i do not plan to re=new my subscription because I've heard it sucks, and there's plenty of better ways to stay virus free in the interwebs.
So can someone help me out and tell me some simple things that will keep me safe on the internet? Or maybe a free anti virus product.

Get Firefox 4. Get the Ad-Block extension. Get the NoScript extension.
Don't go to sketchy sites, don't download anything suspicious. Don't sign up for a lot of websites and if you have to DO NOT USE THE SAME PASSWORD ON ALL OF THEM. Always keep Firefox and Adobe Flash updated (important because many hackers try to get your data through Flash exploits).
This combined with Avast or AVG like Sly said should keep you pretty safe. Most people that get viruses or get their data stolen just do stupid things on the internet that are easily preventable. Just think before you click on links or enter your passwords somewhere.

yeah pdbq pretty much summed up what I was going to say. Basically rule of thumb: Just don't download anything... unless you know who its from. Another cool firefox addon is WOT addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/wot-safe-browsing-tool/it tells you how reputable the site is so you don't get viruses. I haven't used an antivirus for a long time and I'm std free!

or you can get a mac we switched to macs a couple years ago after getting tired of pc slowdowns after 2 years of use. So far my macs have been super reliable and have kept my computers safe.
