I Have been thinking about this for a while, and have some interesting ideas on how to pull it off, if you have not played four square before, i recommend viewing this article on wikipedia. here are the official rules to the game. here is a nice video specifically, it is four rooms. where one ball, like that of the one on the football map is bounced back and fourth between all cycling players. idk if there is an actual way to make a ball levitate or not, if there is then the ball can not touch inside your room more than once. the ''deathzone'' can be considered the aspect of "war" and will randomly appears into a room. when one person enters it they immediately freeze and it spawns in the other three rooms and starts to rapidly expand until another person enters the death zone. they will then bounce the ball back and forth until they miss it. if it was possible; we could lower the walls of the rooms. to see the ball. if needed i have an account over at fileden "free signup with direct link to files" that allows for 5 GB of bandwidth a month, we could stream some music from there. if you guys have any more ideas, let me know.. i'd be interested. cycle_speed 50 cycle_accel 50 cycle_walls_length 90 cycle_rubber 30 cycle_brake 40

That'd be a totally awesome idea if we could get it to work, not sure how though.
-It isn't possible to make the ball levitate, but you can hit it and make a pass. -It is possible to lower walls -I don't really understand what you mean by zones being an aspect of war, you touch it and it freezes you? teleports you? It isn't possible to make zones freeze players, randomly spawning can be done with scripts, teleporting is possible -Can't stream music through armagetron, unless you have .3 beta, and even then, the server can't distribute the music to players.
The only way to make it so after the ball leaves a zone, it kills a player, would be to have fortress zones around each square. If the ball hits the fortress, the player dies.

Well actually in second thought, this might work. 4 Teams, 1 ball RED= death zone GREY= ball COLOR= fortresses that trigger player death if ball hits it ARROW= spawn points We'll probably overlay the mini forts on top of the same spots as the dz to save space teams take turns hitting the ball to the other squares. If a team fails and the ball goes out of bounds, the ball hits the fort which kills all players on the team. If the ball goes out of bounds, it will bounce off the wall and back into the court. Is this kinda what you had in mind?

sry, it's a fun game, and to re-invent it would be epic ;D
but we would have to make sure that there would be enough room for each cycle, but not to much room. otherwise it would all be pointless.

Duke, I was thinking the same thing as you, lol. It would have to be just like you drew it, with the dz's being very small. balls_bounce_on_cycle_wall 999 shot_wall_bounce 999 one thing though, is there a setting to kill the player when you score in sty? We are going to have to do some testing with this also. The large amount of zones involved might be a lag issue, we will have to see. We have to find the right balance.... As of now, for sty games, the ball speed is determined by how fast the cycle hits it. This is all well and good, except that the ratio used leaves the ball moving at a speed that is difficult to hit. Maybe we can set the tail lengths long enough to where you can block the entire span of the fortress zones. Seeing as you are moving, this wont enable you to cheat, but gives a greater range for defense. I have a few more thoughts on this, but I have to test em, so for now, good idea WW3

One way to use less zones to prevent lag is to do it like this, without a deathzone rim, but a solid rim: (forgot to put the dz on the top) AND, another idea: Make fortress defend rate negative, so if you touch your fort for too long, you will die... something to think about. I remember in styball, when scoring a shot it killed the other player, we have to test it to make sure though. Fortress_collapse_kill(or something) could be another option. We'll make the cycles going slow enough so the ball doesn't go too fast, the other plus with that is the squares could be smaller, and allows for better reaction. Yes, I agree that the tails should have some length, possibly being longer than a half of the length of one of the sides? 1/2 because at most, there will be 4 team members in one square so it could be a team effort to block the zones, but I'm fine with longer tails as well. cycle_rubber high enough to prevent team kill idea: fortress_collapse_kill_ratio 1/4 ? missing the ball kills one random team member instead of all of them, 1/2 for half the team members...more to think about arena_axes 8 ? We need more than the standard 4 for sure so you're not always passing it back and forth to the same square. 8 allows you to aim diagonally teams_min 4 teams_max 4 idea: have lives? 2 lives each? allows for a second chance and keeps the game going longer. If we do this, kill_Ratio should be 1 (killing everyone for missing)

Okay, we got this working Lotta good XML work from Who. The only difference in this 4-square is there are 5 balls instead of 1 ( one in each base, and one big one in the middle that gives 3 points.) We tried this with just one ball like traditional 4-square but it would just bounce back between the same people and get boring real quick. This way ups the adrenaline and speed. But to make up for it, we will make a Volleyball mode that does what 4-square didn't. Same concept, but 2 teams on a volleyball court with 1 ball. Whatya think?
